Prosecutors are urged to request the individual police agencies in their jurisdiction to appoint an administrator to make sure that cold hit cases are promptly acted upon and reassigned when necessary. Optimally, the last known lead officer and administrator within the police department and a liaison within the prosecutor's office should be simultaneously notified when a cold hit is obtained, to ensure prompt action is taken.
