Overview on Special Case Circumstances

Even though all serious questions regarding the accuracy and reliability of DNA typing in general have been resolved and no serious admissibility issues remain, new challenges are raised each year. Rapid advancements in DNA technologies require law enforcement to reexamine the effectiveness of forensic investigative and sample collection techniques, as well as review previously unsolved or cold cases. New and highly sophisticated technologies expand both scientific typing methods and the variety and amount of DNA capable of being typed. These advancements have an impact on prosecutors' use of DNA evidence in the courtroom.
