In the prosecution of Danielle Van Dam, the prosecution used canine hairs found in the suspect's dryer lint trap to link the suspect to a missing girl. The canine hairs came from the missing girl's dog.

In another unusual application of DNA, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police linked a murder victim whose body was discovered at a dump site to the apartment of a suspect by testing DNA found in blood drawn from three dead mosquitoes found in the suspect's apartment.
