All of these kits have been designed to permit the analysis of the 20 COmbined DNA Index System (CODIS) core loci, which consist of a set of 20 STR markers that have been adopted nationwide for forensic purposes. CODIS refers to the National DNA Database, which is a searchable repository of DNA profiles from those convicted of crimes, arrestees, crime scene samples and missing persons.
