CODIS Requirements
Governmental laboratories are, almost without exception, required to follow the quality assurance standards for information included in the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database. These standards require accreditation of the outsourcing laboratory, documented agreement prior to analysis by the public crime laboratory's technical leader and technical reviews of each profile before entry into CODIS. If outsourced profiles are to be entered into CODIS, the outsourcing laboratory must comply with the FBI standards.
