Sex Offenders
States enacted legislation requiring convicted sex offenders to submit samples for DNA analysis on a rolling basis. Therefore, gaps exist from state to state. It should not be assumed that all registered sex offenders have submitted a sample for DNA analysis in the state in which they were convicted.
States should compare their database of registered sex offenders against the CODIS database to identify the population of sex offenders with DNA profiles missing from the local system.
