Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories" and the "Quality Assurance Standards for Convicted Offender DNA Databasing Laboratories" were issued by the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in October 1998 and April 1999, respectively and are continually updated.

These standards define the requirements that must be met by any laboratory conducting DNA testing that wishes to participate in the National DNA Index System (NDIS) or to apply for federal funding to support its DNA testing.
