This is a list of general crime scene procedures:

• Make sure the crime scene is safe and the offender has either been arrested or fled the scene
• Render aid if needed
• Survey the area to determine the extent of the crime
• Secure the scene from unnecessary intrusion
• Contact supervisor
• Touch nothing unless absolutely necessary
• Document all observations and actions, especially if the scene has been disrupted from its original state
