COmbined DNA Index System

The COmbined DNA Index System (CODIS) is a database that is administered through the FBI and enables state and local crime laboratories to exchange and compare DNA Profiles electronically. It links crimes to each other and identifies suspects by matching DNA from crime scenes to individuals convicted of an offense.
