Abstract
The first article, School Safety: Helping Law Enforcement and Communities Meet the Challenges of the Modern School Day, profiles efforts by the National Institute of Justice to address new training and technology needs in the wake of the 2012 school shooting in Newtown, CT. The second article, Project Aims to Improve Planning & Training for Tactical Operations, provides information on a project by the Weapons and Protective Systems Technology Center for Excellence (WPSTC) aimed at improving planning and training for tactical operations. The third article, Civil Air Patrol Offers Local Support, details efforts by the Civil Air Patrol on their ability to provide more than just support to law enforcement at the Federal level. The fourth article discusses efforts by the Minnesota Department of Corrections to reduce the presence of contraband cellphones in the State's correctional facilities. The fifth article discusses a program developed by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services to use cellphone records and cellphones to conduct data mining activities on inmates.
