Abstract
This article profiles efforts by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to address new training and technology needs in the wake of the 2012 school shooting in Newtown, CT. The staff at the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center worked to find publicly available free resources and links on the Internet that would provide information on successful new technologies being implemented across the country. These efforts led to the development of the SchoolSafetyInfo.org Web site that is dedicated to providing up-to-the-minute information and assistance to the public safety community. This clearinghouse is intended to help law enforcement and other public safety officials “prepare, respond and recover as they work to keep schools as safe as possible.” Other efforts by NIJ include presentations given through Webinars and conferences.
