This 2013 Annual Report of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) describes the activities of its various components and projects as it fulfills its mission as a conduit between researchers and criminal justice professionals to ensure that technology with relevance to criminal justice policy and practice is being funded and its results are made known to and implemented by criminal justice professionals.
Abstract
This annual report indicates that throughout 2013, the NLECTC System and its component centers worked collaboratively to support the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) in its mission to help federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, corrections, courts, and other criminal justice agencies identify their technology needs and address the challenges of technology implementation. The various NLECTC Centers of Excellence provided scientific and technical support on a number of research, development, test, and evaluation efforts, so as to support the transfer and adoption of technology appropriate for their needs and mission. The national Center, in its role as system hub, assisted in the development and dissemination of relevant reports and publications through print, Internet, and social-media channels. The Small, Rural, Tribal and Border Regional Center ensured that the unique needs of smaller and rural agencies were met. Other achievements during the year included an update of body-armor standards, assistance to law enforcement and communities in updating school safety technological measures, maximizing resources through online contact and social media, assistance to correctional facilities in countering contraband cell phones, and the development of a video that shows a path to unmanned flight in law enforcement activities. 6 exhibits
