The National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center-National (NLECTC-National) will support the Office of Science and Technology (OS&T) research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) process by supporting the adoption of new technologies for use by state and local law enforcement agencies. NLECTC-National will assist in the identification of state and local criminal justice agency technology needs and operational requirements; testing, demonstrating, and evaluating new technologies emerging from the OS&T R&D cycle to assist state and local agencies with their procurement activities; and providing capacity building and technology assistance to the public safety community. NLECTC-National will support the NIJ Body Armor RDT&E process through testing and evaluating vests and supporting the underlying research necessary to improve officer safety. The results of these testing and evaluation activities will assist state and local public safety agencies with their armor procurements and also ensure that Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) funds are used only for purchasing armor models that have been submitted for testing under NIJ's Voluntary Compliance Testing Program and have been found to comply with NIJ standards.
