His agency collects multiple drug-related data sets for the purpose of mitigating the adverse impact of drugs in the agency's community. A variety of drug-correlated data sets are linked in monitoring the opioid epidemic, identifying particularly dangerous drug batches, reducing overdoses, and improving drug investigations. The data sets stem from the domains of public health, healthcare, and the private sector, as well as police investigations. This drug-monitoring data has facilitated targeting particularly dangerous drugs, the identification of drug suppliers and dealers, and a 33-percent decline in drug overdoses. The drug monitoring efforts are assisted by federal funding from the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) under the Anti-Heroin Task Force Grant. Grant funds have provided contract personnel and the technology needed to develop and operate the drug monitoring program.
