Abstract

Forensic scientists and law enforcement officers working in today’s investigative environment face a paradigm shift in how they interact. Forensic disciplines have traditionally been incorporated into a case right before going to court. Now, forensic analysis is able to help drive an investigation and support law enforcement to direct their investigative resources more efficiently. In this article from the National Institute of Justice’s “Notes from the Field” series, Stephanie Stoiloff, Commander; Yaneisy Delgado, Intelligence Analyst; and Gabriel Hernandez, Forensic Laboratory Manager, from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Forensic Services Bureau, discuss the forensic intelligence initiative and the expansion of the use of the ShotSpotter system.
