Abstract
The purpose of this technology transfer workshop is to provide the student with an introduction to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), the use of LC/MS/MS in the general unknown screening of drugs from biological specimens and the application of quantitative drug analysis using LC/MS/MS. The class includes both lecture and laboratory activities to illustrate the general principles presented. The workshop will include instrumental theory as well as basic operation and maintenance. It will also allow the student hands-on experience with obtaining instrument method parameters for individual drugs, method development, instrument readiness as evaluated using standard solutions of analytes, and basic sample processing and drug identification. Calibration curves and individualized analysis of unknowns will also be introduced.
