This report briefly discusses the use of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center’s (NLECTC) JUSTNET Web site to fulfill the research requirement of the new Information Age Technologies and the Justice System course at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
Abstract
In establishing a criminal justice program, the Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in Kansas developed the Information Age Technologies and the Justice System course, a graduation requirement for students majoring in criminal justice. The goal was to create a one-of-a-kind course that helps students take their degrees into the 21st century. The course requires students to do research on the Internet, with most of the research conducted through JUSTNET, the Web site of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) system. The course’s 13 sessions include the relationship between the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and NLECTC and NLECTC categories of technology, such as communications, forensics and criminalistics, less-than-lethal force, and protective equipment. The JUSTNET Web site plays a prominent role in the Information Age Technologies and the Justice System course at FHSU.
