Abstract

This Just Science podcast features an interview with Ms. Marya Simmons, the Founder and CEO of Shift in Notion Consulting and a nationally recognized victim advocate and trainer with a specialty in the formation of multidisciplinary teams or sexual assault response teams, who discusses the challenges for sexual assault victims and victim service providers under conditions created by the social-distancing response to COVID-19. ABST Social distancing, shelter in place, and other preventive responses to COVID-19, along with loss of employment, may create conditions of isolation and precipitate domestic violence and sexual assault. Ms. Simmons discusses how victim services, medical services, and sexual assault victims can act to address conditions that impede receiving help under these challenging conditions. Victim services must focus on outreach through hotlines and interactive online conversations with those who can help in dealing with stress and confusion about how to address particular needs.
