Mixture interpretation is an important part of the forensic scientist's role in evaluating evidence from a crime scene, where mixed specimens can be common. To this end, a mixture multiplex has been created that combines markers from both the X and the Y chromosomes in an attempt to aid in the interpretation of such mixtures, providing clues as to the sex and number of contributors. By maximizing the information gained, the direction of further testing could potentially be influenced and optimized. (Publisher abstract provided.)
