Abstract

This report, in fulfillment of Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Reauthorization Act of 2022 requirements (Public Law 117-103, Division W, Title XI, Section 1003), presents information on the status of women in Federal incarceration. The report presents the law’s background and requirements; data sources and availability; data from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) questionnaire responses; demographic and residence data; information on exposure to sexual victimization, sexual violence, and domestic violence; and federal prison facility best practices regarding women’s incarceration and transition, the availability of trauma treatment at each facility, rates of serious mental illness broken down by gender and security level, and the availability of vocational education and a list of vocational programs provided by each facility. Finally, an appendix provides information on the number of women held at each FBOP facility, as of December 31, 2022.
