This performance report presents an overview of the activities and accomplishments of the American Academy of Applied Forensics (AAAF) at Central Piedmont Community College.
Abstract
The American Academy of Applied Forensics (AAAF) at Central Piedmont Community College in North Carolina was created to respond to the need to put science at the crime scene through as many channels as possible. The program at AAAF produced training models that enhanced the consistency, accuracy, and efficiency of the evidence-handling skills of law enforcement and medico-legal professionals. Also, AAAF produced a model for “Comprehensive Crime Scene Processing” skills training. AAAF information services address the acute operational needs for crime scene investigators and crime laboratory service providers. Upgraded programming and organizational infrastructure improved the delivery of training models. Funds from this award (in 2001 by a Congressional appropriation) ensured the long-term fiscal sustainability of the AAAF by establishing it as a self-supporting entity by fiscal year 2006. All of these improvements and enhancements benefited the criminal justice community by delivering programs and services that had limited availability in this region. Appendixes A-E
