This 2017 Annual Report of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) provides data and information on its efforts to support the development, transfer, and adoption of technology by law enforcement and corrections agencies, courts, and crime laboratories.
Abstract
As it has throughout its 21-year history, in 2017 the NLECTC System has continued to provide 1) scientific and technical support for the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) research development test and evaluation projects; 2) support for the transfer and adoption of technology into practice in criminal justice fields; 3) assistance in developing and disseminating equipment performance standards and technology guides; 4) assistance in the demonstration, testing, and evaluation of criminal justice tools and technologies; 5) technology information, along with general and specialized technology support; and 6) assistance in setting NIJ's research agenda. NLECTC's activities performed in 2017 focus on the Justice Technology Information Center's innovations in its TECHBeat publication, In reporting on its work in standards and testing, attention is given to the Michigan State police vehicle and motorcycle evaluation as a means of informing law enforcement agencies' purchasing decisions. In the area of school safety, changes are noted in the NLECTC website SchoolSafetyInfo.org. NLECTC activities are also reported for unmanned aircraft systems; the Justice Innovation Center; the Criminal Justice Priority Technology Needs Initiative; the National Criminal Justice Technology Research, Test, and Evaluation Center, and the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence.
