Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $275,334)

Booby traps activated by trip-wires pose a significant threat to law enforcement and other first responders, including SWAT, and explosive ordnance detection personnel. The recipient proposes to use a laser device capable of emitting multiple wavelengths that will cause trip wires of various materials to fluoresce such as metal wire, nylon, and yarn. The recipient will also develop a marking paint that will fluoresce at various wavelengths to indicate the location of the tripwire to other law enforcement personnel once detected.
