The project will enhance the structure and operation of the existing Forensic Technology Center of Excellence to support NIJ's research, development, testing and evaluation process in all areas of forensic science for criminal justice application. The goals of the proposed Forensic Technology Center of Excellence are to assist in the identification of technology needs; facilitate the transition of technology solutions into practice; provide technical assistance to meet the forensic requirements of law enforcement, crime laboratories and other criminal justice agencies; and assess the progress of grant programs and the quality of DNA laboratories nationwide.
