MDPD is requesting continuation funding so that ongoing investigations will not experience any potentially compromising disruption. Its DNA program has produced more than 2,342 DNA hits - more than any other laboratory in the State, and is widely recognized for its success in using DNA to solve crimes. As of 2009, MDPD has 4,647 open sexual crimes cold cases dating back to 1998 and 1,606 open homicide cold cases dating back to 1957.
