Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $434,245)
Past national reports on serious and violent offenders have paid little attention to the transition between the juvenile and early adult years, when many offenders persist in offending but are dealt with in different justice systems. This proposal is to establish a study group on Violence and Serious Offending in Late Adolescence and Early Adulthood. The main objective of the study group is for a group of experts to produce seven scientific papers on seven key areas: 1) Offending Careers, 2) Special Categories of Serious and Violent Offenders, 3) Risk and Protective Factors and Causation, 4) Prediction and Risk Assessment, 5) Situations and Contexts, 6) Justice Response, and 7) Prevention and Intervention Programs. The topical reports will be based on secondary data analyses from several longitudinal datasets and extensive reviews of the literature in the field. ca/ncf
