The University of Central Florida National Center for Forensic Sciences will support the following NIJ projects: Virtual Digital Evidence Laboratory (VDEL) and the Digital Forensics Certification Board (DFCB). VDEL is a virtual laboratory consisting of the tools and resources required for digital forensic examinations; these resources may be located in various geographic locations and administered and maintained by different entities. The DFCB resulted from NCFS bringing together participants from law enforcement, academia and the forensic community to determine the needs of the digital evidence community. The DCFC, a component of improving the digital forensic process via the human factor, provides a stand alone, professional certification for digital forensics practitioners that meet the needs of the individual practitioners and removes the burden from agencies who need to do casework; the DFCB will be a recognized certification process to assess the comptenecy of individuals. nca/ncf
