Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $20,000)
Microdevice technology offers a reduction in sample volume that may allow for analysis of casework samples that were previously not amenable to analysis using current techniques. The proposed research focuses on improving DNA extraction recovery/purification and enhancing PCR efficiency for casework analysis. It will specifically focus on DNA extraction and purification. These studies are part of a larger project (funded by the FBI) that is focusing on development of a microdevice for forensic DNA analysis.
