Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $499,865)
The goal of this proposal is to further develop technologies for rapid analysis of drugs of abuse using microfluidic systems. A range of drugs in various matrices will be targeted, including those implicated in drug-facilitated sexual assault. In previous phases of this work, the principal investigator developed a rapid screening method for the simultaneous detection of two classes of date-rape drugs, with separation in under 16 minutes. Derivatization techniques and generic detection schemes will be explored to enable screening of a wide range of drugs.
