Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $1,000,000)
NIJ will fund the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) to develop and maintain a program that links the DNA Quality System Audit and the Grant Program Assessment in a comprehensive statewide format. This approach will provide the NIJ with a complete review of an entire state's performance as related to DNA grant awards. This process takes a giant step towards insuring the quality of DNA casework performed in laboratories supported by DNA grant funding.
The program is structured to provide half of the states and affected territories with the audit and the assessment within the first year of the program and the remaining laboratories assessments in the second year. The proposal requires that the NIJ mandate the present DNA Quality System Audit as offered by the NFSTC as a special condition of receiving future DNA funding.
