NIJ Compliance Testing for Autoloading Pistols

NIJ administers the NIJ Compliance Testing Program (NIJ CTP) to determine a specific pistol model’s compliance with NIJ Standard 0112.03, Autoloading Pistols for Police Officers, Revision A. The NIJ CTP helps ensure the pistols purchased and used by law enforcement agencies will perform as expected.

About the Standard

NIJ Standard 0112.03, Autoloading Pistols for Police Officers, Revision A, specifies the minimum performance requirements and test methods for autoloading service pistols used by U.S. law enforcement.  Its primary purpose is for use by the NIJ CTP for testing and evaluation of autoloading pistols for certification by NIJ.  It will be used by both ballistics laboratories that test firearms and firearms manufacturers participating in the NIJ CTP.  NIJ has also proposed a major revision of this standard, anticipated to be published in 2022 as NIJ Standard 0112.04, Semiautomatic Pistols for Law Enforcement.

Autoloading Pistol Scheme

This scheme describes the specific conformity assessment requirements of the NIJ CTP for autoloading pistols to be listed on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL).  #Perhaps link below.

Autoloading pistols shall be tested in accordance with NIJ Standard 0112.03 (Revision A), Autoloading Pistols for Police Officers, by an NIJ-approved laboratory according to this scheme.

About NIJ Standards

NIJ develops and publishes voluntary equipment standards that specifically address the needs of law enforcement, corrections, and other criminal justice agencies to ensure that equipment is safe, reliable, and performs according to established minimum performance requirements.  NIJ standards are consensus-based and designed to articulate the criminal justice end user community’s operational requirements regarding equipment performance.  They are designed to provide a level of confidence in a product’s fitness for purpose and allow comparison of products based on standardized test methods.
