This is the audio and transcript of three presentations at the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) 2010 Conference; they identify and discuss evaluation features required to designate a program as evidence-based.
Abstract
One presentation identifies and discusses the features of program design and operation, as well as an evaluation design most likely to yield the evidence needed to determine whether or not a program is having its intended effect on participants. The second presentation discusses the role of theory in the design of a program, i.e., the rationale for believing that the program will likely have the intended effect on participants. In the third presentation, a representative of the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) described how OJP is approaching the development and promotion of evidence-based criminal justice programs and policies.
