This report summarizes the results of an NIJ-funded project conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Abstract
The Bureau expanded its DNA services by purchasing a Plato 3001D Gene Machine base unit, which is used for making bloodstains from samples in the DNA Database Unit and extracting DNA from these samples. The machine was installed in the laboratory in September 1998. The software needed to operate the instrument has been loaded on the unit's computer system. The Bureau used $72,999.02 of the $73,000 NIJ grant to purchase the machine with a single payment. No implementation problems have occurred.
