Abstract

Kimberly DuMont, a research associate with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, specializes in issues related to child development and child maltreatment. Her panel presentation addresses her current work on a randomized control trial that is examining the effectiveness of an intensive home visitation program for families at risk of child maltreatment. A second presentation is by David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center and co-director of the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire. Much of this work addresses child victimization, child maltreatment, and family violence. He focuses on these issues, and the recently published findings of the National Study of Children Exposed to Violence. A third presentation is by Patricia Stern, founder of Stern Steps, a consulting firm that advises government, the private sector, and nonprofit organizations on policy and program management in the area of family violence. Her presentation focuses on improving the identification and treatment of children exposed to violence across a number of contexts.
