In support of the NIST project, "Comparison of Examiner Conclusions with Score-based Likelihood Ratios for Cartridge Case Evidence," the FBI Firearm and Toolmark Unit will do the following:
- Year 1: The FBI Firearm and Toolmark Unit will be in charge of 3D data acquisitions and study sample organization. They will also be aiding in the databasing efforts in conjunction with NIST to ensure all comparison samples are correctly catalogued within RPDFT. The cost is associated with the annual salary of a Visiting Scientist at a fixed rate.
- Year 2: The FBI Firearm and Toolmark Unit will be completing the remaining 3D data acquisitions and study sample organization. Their role will then transition towards data analysis, statistical analysis, and reporting in conjunction with NIST to accomplish the study objectives. The cost is associated with the annual salary of a Visiting Scientist at a fixed rate.
