Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $300,000)

The applicant proposes a two-prong approach to continue the development of knowledge and its translation into the policing profession. First, the applicant proposes to complete a gap analysis over the course of stakeholder meetings to identify current needs for additional research, translational challenges, and effective strategies to replicate successful implementation. Second, the applicant proposes to oversee stakeholder engagement activities to help prioritize the creation of new knowledge and implementation support.

Additionally, the applicant proposes to provide technical support to law enforcement agencies and practitioners to improve receptivity of research and support its translation into policy and practice. The organization is well-situated to encourage endorsement of this approach by a law enforcement agency’s chief executive and to develop skilled staff to operationalize evidence-based policing. Specifically, applicant proposes to integrate LEADS Scholars into executive leadership and development training to prepare them for executive positions in law enforcement. Applicant will also develop and implement a mentorship program, continue current support of the LEADS Scholars program through integration at the Annual Conference, and provide technical support to allow for an internet-based network of current Scholars and alumni.

"Note: This project contains a research and/or development component, as defined in applicable law," and complies with Part 200 Uniform Requirements - 2 CFR 200.210(a)(14).
