Demo of Shielded Micro Jamming (SMJ) in an Inmate Building at the Cumberland FCI

The goal of this project is to perform a pilot study using to the Shielded Micro Jamming (SMJ) technology demonstration deployed in a whole building housing inmates at the Cumberland FCI, scaling up from a previous demonstration done using a single inmate cell. SMJ block signals to and from wireless devices, such as mobile phones. The study includes installation of an SMJ system in the targeted building which would take 6-9 months, and proposes testing the system collaboratively performed with NIJ, BOP, DOJ, NTIA, FCC, CTIA, the carriers, and other interested parties. The pilot study will include a report of the results. The deployed SMJ system could also be left at the pilot site, should the correctional facility wish to support its continued operation.
