The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) intends to reduce its backlog by 360 cases through the outsourcing of 300 sexual assault kits to City approved contract laboratories for serological screening and DNA typing. In addition, 60 sexual assault cases will be serologically screened by the LAPD, potentially probative samples and exemplars will be outsourced to the City approved contract laboratories for DNA typing.
