Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $291,339)
The goal of this proposal is to develop a rapid method to screen and confirm the presence of organic (non-metallic) gunshot residue using an electrospray ionization technique to couple liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. Liquid chromatography is used to separate the components of a mixture, which are then ionized by the electrospray device. These ions are then analyzed and identified by their mass/charge ratio using mass spectrometry.
