Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $499,936)
The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) proposes to build on the work started from previous funding and to move on to the second phase of the project. The next objective is to identify, review, and prioritize violent crime cold cases that have the potential to be solved using DNA analysis to determine whether biological evidence may exist. A new sub-objective has been identified: the filing of 'John Doe Warrants'. This is a process where an investigation by the Sex Crimes Cold Case Squad combined with evidence analysis by the KCPD Crime Laboratory to produce a credible case worthy of filing by the Prosecutor's Office.
