Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $350,000)
The purpose of this proposal is to present an approach to solving cases utilizing DNA technology by establishing a process for screening, assessing and investigating cold cases. The results of this 18-month project will be monitored utilizing existing computer systems while a new unsolved murder/missing persons database is being created. This database will be shared with unsolved units throughout the region and will not only assist in managing thousands of cold case murders, but will include additional components, such as DNA analysis, geographical profiling, gangs association, firearm links, crime analysis, missing persons, case management, solvability levels and solve rates.
