Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $278,824)
This study involves a statewide evaluation of 25 domestic violence courts across New York. The evaluation will bring greater clarity to the fundamental question of whether these courts reduce recidivism and will also illuminate under what contextual conditions, and for which categories of defendants, domestic violence courts do and do not have positive effects. Secondarily, the impact of domestic violence courts on case processing speed, conviction rates, and sentencing practices will also be examined.
