Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $1,780,000)
This project will continue development and implementation of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), which includes the NamUs Unidentified Decedent Database and the NamUs Missing Persons Database that can be accessed by law enforcement, medical examiners, coroners, victim advocates, and searched by the public. These databases will ultimately assist with solving missing person and unidentified decedent cases and lead to a dramatic increase of the number of DNA samples analyzed and uploaded into the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Once missing person and unidentified decedent cases are entered into NamUs, numerous forensic services can be offered to solve each case which includes fingerprint analysis, forensic odontology, forensic anthropology, forensic artistry, and DNA analysis.
