Forensic Science Training & Technical Assistance

The funding will provide support to The National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) to host and sponsor four Training Conferences in 2007, which will address Advanced Cold Case issues. The Conferences will run for two (2) days with space available for 80 participants and will be conducted at various sites across the United States.
A key strategy and focus of the OJP and the NIJ involves the use of DNA analysis to help solve cold cases. In support of this strategy and in addition to other DNA-related projects, the NFSTC and the NIJ co-sponsor Regional Conferences that offer opportunities for training in how to leverage technology to solve cold cases.
NFSTC is also funding a project entitled 'The Digital Evidence Awareness Tools.' This project will support planning, delivery, and video capture of high-level informational events. These events will be supplemented by the development of comprehensive educational digital evidence tools for law enforcement and other members of the criminal justice community whose focus is on critical issues as identified by the NIJ and the Electronic Crime Partnership Initiative (ECPI).
The funding will also support The National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) in the following areas; Facilitate FRN Events (Booth, Staffing & Publications); DNA Backlog Study with GTH; Trace Evidence Symposium; Genetics & Ethics Conference (July 20 -21, 2007); and the Forensic Information Sharing Exchange (FIDEX) ' ILP.
NFSTC partners with NIJ to develop and deliver programs in support of the crime fighting efforts of the criminal justice community. One of the NFSTC's core competencies is its ability to successfully plan, arrange for, and execute meetings and conferences. The NIJ has come to rely on this strength and continues to propose co-sponsorship opportunities with the NFSTC.
