This project will develop a hand-held weapon detection wand that adds acoustic technology to existing metal detection to: Enhance detection of non-metallic hidden objects at close range on the body; Enhance the probability of detection while reducing false calls for metallic hidden objects on a body by integrating two different detection physics approaches into one device; Produce a portable, lab prototype device that demonstrates the enhancements that will come from the final commercial version of the WANDD; and Begin the initial commercialization process for the WANDD technology ultimately producing a low-cost device that fits the needs of corrections and other law enforcment officers.
