Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $43,849)
These funds to Florida Gulf Coast University are for testing and evaluation of infrared strobes and night observation devices to aid in the location of downed and missing law enforcement officers. Various commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) systems will be evaluated and field-tested so as to determine the feasibility (and cost effectiveness) of using these technologies for search and/or rescue operations. The final product (report) may provide a low-cost solution to a number of problems faced by law enforcement officers in the field and may reduce the potential for a friendly fire incident.
