Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $150,000)
The proposed project will evaluate the effectiveness of active RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in a jail environment. Although successfully implemented in more static prison environments, this technology has yet to be deployed in a high-turnover jail facility with short lengths of stay and a high volume of inmate movements. This project will measure both the effectiveness of this technology as a deterrent in reducing inmate-initiated assaults on other inmates and officers as well as its effectiveness as a tool for investigating incidents that do occur.
