The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Forensic Services Laboratory is charged with the mission of providing a full range of forensic services to local law enforcement agencies in South Carolina. The overall objective of the proposed SLED Crime Laboratory Improvement Program is to provide a means by which the laboratory can replace aging equipment in some departments, augments capabilities and equipment in other departments, and provide needed training for personnel. The goals of the SLED Forensic Crime Laboratory Improvement Program are: to acquire new laboratory instrumentation and equipment in DNA, Drug Analysis, Firearms, Latent Prints, Photography, Questioned Documents, Toxicology, and Trace Evidence Laboratory sections to enhance forensic services to the law enforcement community, to replace the existing laboratory information management system (LIMS) and the system network, and to provide training for laboratory personnel in areas directly related to the functions they fulfill in the laboratory.
