Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2003, $1,490,250)
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, Division of Forensic Science, plans to train, certify, and equip 21 forensic scientists in the disciplines of Firearm/Toolmarks, Controlled Substances, and DNA over a 24 month time frame. The Division of Forensic Science will contract with an outside vendor to provide the training, using the Division's training facility, protocols, and equipment.
The project will also provide for laboratory facility modifications and the purchase of additional equipment and replacement equipment to increase and enhance the Division's capabilities to more efficiently address the current case backlog.
