Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $103,514)
This study will link data on retail and secondhand gun sales of Maryland to national and local data on crime-related guns recovered by the police in order to pedict whether guns sold under varying circumstances will be more or less likely to be used in a subsequent crime. The project will: (1) explore the likelihood that a gun sold by a licensed dealer or private owner will then be used in a crime and whether that likelihood is influenced by the characteristics of the gun, the seller, the buyer, or the transaction; and (2) examine how findings can enhance efforts to control illegal firearms markets and reduce gun use in crime.
